Set My Phone To Global Or Gsm Lte?

  1. Davidoo's Avatar

I accept always been told all my Verizon devices should be set to LTE/CDMA rather than Global network type. Does information technology brand a difference and does anyone know why? The reason I ask is that I was in a VZW corporate shop today and looked at another Turbo and noticed it was getting 5 bars of 4G and a point of -62dBm. Mine was only getting 3 confined at -100 something. I checked the settings further and the brandish phone was on Global. I inverse mine to Global and after a couple of flashes mine also went to 5 bars and -62 dBm.

At my business firm I always have 3 to 4 bars, but at present when I got abode I merely had one. Set it dorsum to LTE/CDMA and it went back to my usual indicate strength. How does this work? Is it considering Global uses a different band that is not available on the tower near my house?

As far as I know, when you lot are in the US there is no divergence - your phone uses LTE/CDMA anyhow. When you travel out of the country, though, that'due south when global kicks in - it lets the phone connect to GSM/UMTS networks likewise.

i have never seen an admittedly definitive respond to this question.
some people say its ameliorate on battery life to have it set to lte/cdma.
i've heard if you have good verizon coverage to prepare it to lte/cdma.
when i'1000 in the bomb shelter here it gives me a popup request if i desire to plow on global mode.
every verizon phone i accept ever had has used global as default, why would they do it if it was merely for out of the country?
are different phones affected differently past this setting?
maybe a verizon tech can enlighten us.

They make global the default and then that non-technical people who travel don't take to monkey with the settings.

It won't hurt the telephone to switch it. You did discover the one time y'all come across a difference in u.s. - when you have no indicate it volition offering to try to connect to a GSM network. If you lot find yourself in those conditions ofttimes, past all means switch. If you'll never travel, by all ways switch. I've been out of the country twice in the last iv months and so I just leave it global.

I had service bug from my house in SE WI. Had global turned on. Contacted tech back up and was told to switch off the global network. Solved result. Not certain why it would have caused an upshot in the first place.

I noticed a meliorate bespeak in NYC expanse past switching to LTE/CDMA. Mayhap it helped battery as well. I was always nether the impression that they both use departure bands, but I have never received an official answer. I'd accept to call Verizon corporate and promise that I become a level 2 tech that actually knows this answer. Regular Verizon store reps will double talk until they're blueish in the face.

Take a Note three, but changed from GLOBAL to LTE/CMDA - no change. 2 to iii bars & 100 to 105 db. Indicate strength seemed to change for the better with the upgrade to 4.4.4 (from 120-125db to 100-105 db).

I usually don't see a modify either when I switch....EXCEPT when I was in the Verizon shop and it made a huge departure as Global way had a much stronger signal. Possibly they take some type of repeater or mini tower in in that location that broadcasts on a frequency that only Global picks up? All the devices I checked in the shop were set to Global.

Global just means that the phone will wait for GSM / UMTS signals where they have roaming agreements when a CDMA / LTE betoken doesn't exist. Every bit far as I know, Verizon doesn't roam to any GSM carrier in the US (AT&T, T-Mobile). The signal will non be different - at that place is merely one radio, i mobile antenna. Battery life may be slightly worse but in the case when yous have a weak CDMA bespeak - the telephone will outset looking for GSM signals, which it will non be able to connect to anyway.

I have used Boost for years and just got a nice new phone and take had the worst service ever. I noticed my connection settings are on automated I don't take a global setting and was doing some enquiry myself trying to effigy it out. I believe just in theory that the reason for non having a strong consequent signal recently is because my phone is more frequently searching for a better ane and disables the current bespeak while doing that. I'one thousand going to try switching back to LTE/CDMA mode and see if information technology makes a divergence. Non a tech wiz but information technology makes sense to me.
